What is a fire-tube boiler? What are its characteristics?

A fire-tube boiler consists of a drum, tubes, and other critical pressure components. The fire tubes serve as the primary pathways for heat transfer. Within the boiler, high-temperature flue gases generated by the burner flow through helical smoke tubes surrounded by water. This process heats the water, steam, or steam-water mixture outside the tube walls to produce steam or hot water.
